While in the North East I took time out to wander the back streets which brought back many childhood memories of living in South Stanley in the early sixties. Kids played safely and the local bobby would always ask, come dusk, isn’t it time you were at home now lad? That feeling of safety in a warm community seems to have long since vanished in many places but I’m glad I still have those memories of days gone by; noticeably in the Bencham area I get the feeling that the old values are still prevalent and I love that feel.
I’m returning south today after yet another whistle stop visit but once again I’m going home with fond memories of my native community. It’s been good catching up with everyone though tinted with a little sadness that my little granddaughter is still recovering from an accident but thankfully she is improving daily. Forget-me-not Geordieland and I’ll see you again soon xx
