Been quite a while since I picked up a guitar partly because I’ve been too busy but also because having spent a few years having to (to earn a living) it’s not something I find particularly relaxing anymore. It sort of reminds me of days when I played chess at quite a high level (in Iceland 1973) – when you’ve been smothered in something you tend to avoid it like the plague. As you get older you find new challenges too.
Last Sunday though I was feeling quite chilled and so gave an impromptu gig with my daughter Benita in the back garden for family and neighbours which turned out to be a really lovely event. Even the cows looked like they were rocking to the strains of Summer of 69 and the backdrop of the Irish Sea added that special little element. A few Waterboys songs were also well in place. I’m loving my new job – and my life in Wales, particularly the evenings and weekends.
