Another piece of the jigsaw

Regular readers will know I’ve been researching and clawing through my autobiography for years and occasionally come across a little gem which either clarifies something or sends me up an entirely different road.

Durham County Council have been helping me piece together my early years (which I’ve been writing about here on my website) and at some point found my registration card which I had stored away but turned up again as I was packing some papers.

When I read the card again I felt dreadfully sad although not so much for me; I already know what happened to me though I didn’t know the kids home I was in was somehow connected to the North East Workhouse. No, I felt really sad for my birth Mother who, although I rejected her later in life for putting me in care, had been accommodated in Crossley Sanitorium and only she could have known what that experience was like.

As I’m left with my thoughts I am at least thankful to Durham County Council for giving me another piece of my jigsaw.

Boy from Stonehaugh

One of my readers (Parker) who lives in the first house I ever lived in – in the tiny village of Stonehaugh – tells me that the 60th anniversary of the village is to be held on Saturday 31 May 2014. Will I be there? Of course; and with many members of my family from three generations. And hopefully I’ll meet some of the many Stonehaugh-ers who have called in here at my website. It would be great to put faces to virtual friends.

Retro is so cool

Sometimes I don’t always want non stop access to Twitter, Utube, Facebook, EBay, WordPress, Emails and Tom Cobleigh and his dog; I’m happy enough just being in touch with those closest to me.

I bought this little diamond when I moved to India in 2007 because I loved the way the sides flashed blue when I got a text and how easily my hand wrapped around it. For the past year or so I had loaned it to my close friend Francis who, to my delight, returned it to me this weekend and I quickly moved back in. I’m told these phones are no longer available to buy very easily and with less being more these days they have begun achieving cult status.

Like most people I do have an all-singing all-dancing phone on a contract and said contract is due for renewal soon; whether I renew it or not though is another question. But if phone companies are reading this they’ll do well to consider how cool past designs were before they all went mad sticking every conceivable app into a handset. If more people begin realising how much more relaxing life is when they are not constantly battered throughout the day by trivia that they feel the need to check out on the spot it may well be the beginning of the end for the all-singing all-dancing gadgets of the day.

WATCH OUT FOR THE ICE EVERYONE

Thankfully my lady is fine but as you can see her car isn’t. This happened this morning at about 6.30 in the dark and Carol was lucky to get out of it. After fumbling around she found the button for the electro windows and then had to crawl out through a bramble bush; she just got a call through to me before her mobile died. Where the accident happened was miles away from a house or building where she could get help; and really disgusting were the five men who drove past without stopping. When I arrived a girl had stopped and was keeping Carol company!!!

Good time for us all to think about the weather right now and what we are carrying in the car:
Mobile phone (charged and topped up), torch, spare clothes, drinks and chocolate.

Well done the insurance people (Marks and Spencer’s) who had paid her out by 9am and arranged a courtesy car for her from 2pm. #shoutout #marksandspencer Thank you.

A wandering star…
