Load of old cobblers

My response to the Community Care Act 1990 designed to take vulnerable people out of institutions and place them in the community.

While the government of the day sold the Act as respecting people’s rights to a ‘normal life’ the reality was far different. Many people had been institutionalised so long they simply did not have the skills to cope in the wider world, and the wider world did not have the resources to cope with them. Looking back this painting comes nowhere near the fury I felt about the situation and if I were to paint a new one it would be far more aggressively themed.
