Currently I’m on holiday in Pembrokeshire, Wales, and when here I always try to visit Caldey Island, off Tenby. Over the years I’ve made many visits because I find it, as a religious retreat, so peaceful.

The drawings are from my sketchbook from the early 1980s and the photos are from today.

Caldey has always been a very spiritual place for me to visit and back in the day Brother Robert was the Abbot. I liked him a lot, he was a funny dude and so I made reference to Caldey in a cartoon strip I was publishing at the time. (You can see samples of the strip here on my website – JL Against all odds).

Lovely to see Caldey had hardly changed at all since my drawings of almost 40 years ago (1983).
