Maori Warrior performing the haka. When we arrived in New Zealand in 1974 (although I don’t remember if it was Christchurch in the south or Gisborne in the north) the warriors welcomed us on the quayside with an amazing performance. At the time I was 19 and initially terrified until I was enlightened that when once the haka was a war dance it was now a welcome.
