In the early 1990s, Mansfield District Council commissioned me to create a cartoon character to encourage children to take part in looking after the environment. For this brief I came up with S.A.M. Squirrel (Support Action Mansfield) and his adventures were published periodically between 1990-1994. SAM visited schools, youth clubs and other places where children congregate and by all means became a much loved character resulting in many children becoming involved in environmental projects. Here I’ve presented a few samples of my cartoon strip:
