Road to Heaven

Today I am featuring a painting from my 1995 exhibition Journeys End, as a tribute to my Foster Mam Katie who passed away 49 years ago today. There is a song which accompanies this painting on my utube channel at: https://youtu.be/m41K73SFI_A

” #FosterParents are not only asked to care for the basic needs of a child, but also to sit alongside them as they digest the hurt and damage they have undeservingly experienced”.

Katie Dixon was 44 when she took me on at 7 in 1962 after 6 years in a kids home. On this day in 1974 (aged 18) I was flown back from Mombasa on compassionate leave but sadly she passed away the following day on 27 February 1974.

It’s been 49 years since then and there has never been a day I haven’t given thanks for her selflessness in her commitment in giving me the strength through love to cope with whatever else life throws at me. Thank you so much Mam. All my love. Your son Alan x

A little update. Following this post my song Road to Heaven had 100 listens in the first day and so to those who listened to it thank you!
